What’s the best way to learn?  Study, study and more study?  Reading, remembering, and writing?  Or is it doing?

To me, this is the only way to learn…or at least to enjoy learning.  And surely, if you are enjoying something then you will be eager to continue doing it, thoroughly applying yourself and investing a lot of time and effort.

That is why I think, when it comes to learning languages (or indeed learning anything else), you should really take an active approach to your study.  In the case of language learning, a language course abroad is a perfect choice as you are immersed in the language and culture of the country (and so doing the language all the time – going out to eat, shopping, buying tickets…) and furthermore, you are with many other active learners – your classmates!

Say you decide to study Spanish, why not travel to Spain?  You can pick between various tourist spots with all the commodities a traveller could wish for so you don’t feel so far from home – Mallorca or Madrid for example – or, for the more daring, there is always the option of the more remote regions to study languages.  Spanish examples of these lesser known destinations include Tarragona and the Costa Verde.

Make sure you make the most of whatever you do - you will find the enjoyment comes easily!

Getting a good and high-paying job in the future would largely depend upon the quality of career training you had while in school.

If you want to become successful after college, choose a degree that you really like and you think would give you more opportunities after graduation. Career education starts with choosing the best course and even before finishing high school, you have to have a few list of possible courses that you think would give you a bright future.

Hundreds of online schools and campus colleges and universities offer career training that give you diplomas, certificates or associate degrees. It could either be in such fields as business, engineering, health, accounting, educational leadership, psychology, information technology, web development, culinary arts, fashion and interior design, criminal justice, game programming, management, human services or public administration.

Others may also want to go into desktop publishing, automotive, office administration, medical assisting or foreign languages. Every career builder should also consider looking at such degrees as bachelor, master or and doctoral, focusing in various major programs and courses.

Choosing a career maybe difficult for some people. But in choosing the right career, consider the potential growth of the course or program you plan to take after a few years since some careers maybe in demand today but not tomorrow.

Among the fastest growing jobs that need either a bachelor’s degree, doctoral or associate degrees are in the areas of information and communication technology, health, engineering, business, education, science and psychology.

In information and communication technology, jobs that may be in demand until 2014 include computer systems software engineer, network systems and data communications analyst, network and computer systems administrator, computer applications software engineer, database administrator and computer systems analyst.

A career builder who wants to become a network systems and data communications analyst could expect a brighter future since employment in this field is projected to grow by 55 percent in 2014 while in the area of computer applications software engineering, the demand is expected to grow by 48 percent.

In the area of health, the most promising jobs are physician assistants with expected demand growth of 50 percent until 2014, physical therapists, medical scientists, occupational therapists, mental health counselors, home health aide, medical assistants, dental assistants, physical therapist aides, and personal and home care aide.

Other jobs also worth considering are fashion and interior designing, graphics and digital designing, massage therapy, automotive and aviation mechanics, biomedical engineering, postsecondary teaching and substance abuse counseling. If you now have a career but is not happy with your current job, consider a career change in areas you feel you would really excel.

But before making a career change, ask yourself if this is really what you want, then have a list of the possible occupations you want to join. After choosing from the list, enroll for a career training to help you prepare with your chosen field. When the career training is over and all things are set, job hunting comes next in the plan. But just remember that any career you wish to embark on would give you a ride to success.

Ok, ok, it is not a new concept.  In the past 30 years, millions of people have chosen to travel to Spain for the guaranteed sun, beach and relaxing atmosphere.  Mallorca, the Costa del Sol and Ibiza are amongst the favourites – all perfectly equipped for the summer influx of tourists.

But, have you ever considered travelling a little further into Spain – perhaps a Northern city such as Santander – where you can find white sand beaches – or inland Spain – Cordoba perhaps?

Whatever you choose, you should be assured that the relaxing atmosphere of your past holidays will still be present on these new ones.  What may be different is that you see a little more than beaches, souvenir shops and discotheques.  You may also find it a little more demanding than in the usual destinations with regard to the language barrier.  Not that this has to be an issue.  You can easily remedy the situation by taking on a Spanish class.

It needn’t be an expensive issue to study languages.  You can do it in your own time through online schools, with cds (perhaps you have a job in which you drive a lot- why not learn Spanish during the weekly journeys?) or in a night school (this will give you a chance to practise your spoken Spanish through the interaction with the other students. You never know, you may love your new found language skills so much that you take them to a new level; it could even prompt a career change.

With regard to what you do on your holiday, it can vary from sunbathing and postcard-writing.  A golf vacation, cookery course or walking holidays are nice options to add a little variety to your time abroad.  And if the risk of a new destination doesn’t appeal, with a little research, you can always find these types of activities in the normal tourist hot-spots like Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Costa Blanca.

The financial aspect to study is one which is frequently overlooked yet it is an extremely important one, especially to students from families unable to support them to the end of further education or to those wanting to study in a specialist school, where financial support can be minimal.

Other factors of an education which can be accompanied by a great cost include travel (gap years, etc) and living away from home (rent, food, bills…).  With all this choice, it is no surprise that the majority of students finish their education with an enormous amount of debt – their student loan, credit cards and overdraft contributing to what could be years of debt repayment.

It is only after their final exams, when they embark on their career education that the debt can really have an impact – interest rates rise, as does the cost of living and the needs of the individual.  It is for this reason, many people are now considering, as an alternative to study away from home - through online schools or colleges, achieving a prestigious bachelor degree online.  By studying at an online college, the timetable for learning is 100% flexible, allowing the student to take employment if he/she wishes (and bear in mind that when resume writing, this employment can be the decider between yourself and a student who has not had experience of work).

Alternatively, should you choose the route of a more typical education – with a student loan, etc – then in the future you might like to consider student loan consolidation.  A type of debt consolidation, this allows the student to pay back all that they owe through one payment.  The total owed maybe higher yet the fact that it is just one payment makes a real difference – there is little chance of any missed payments (extremely costly) and budget management is so much easier.  It also demonstrates that you can effectively manage you finances as you take a real responsibility for the amount you have spent during your education.

Loan consolidation through banks is the most commercial way of doing this yet there are many only-online companies which too offer direct loan consolidation.

However you choose to manage your finances as a student, whether it is by debt prevention (living at home, joining an online college) or by debt cure (debt consolidation), make sure you consider all the likely pitfalls which lay before you: if you plan to study languages for example, be aware that it is more than likely you will have to spend a year as an international student, something which could be extremely costly or extremely cheap, depending on the country you spend your time abroad in).

Keep track of advertising – what is popular at the moment? What are your friends finding useful? And above all else, take responsibility with budgets – the life of students is a fun but not a luxurious one – something which should thought of each time you make a trip to the shops!
